Win four boxes from Kelloggs new lower sugar cereal range

There is a great debate over whether cereal is a healthy option for children’s breakfasts or not.  We all love the idea that children should eat whole grains and milk at breakfast time, for a filling, healthy meal, but many of the cereal options that are aimed at children are also packed full of sugar, which is not ideal.   And I don’t know about you, but I’m also partial to a bowl of children’s sweet cereals now and again, although I know they don’t really fit with my healthy eating regime…Honey_Loops_3d small

Kelloggs have been listening to the concerns of mums, and so they have introduced a new range of reduced sugar cereals for children.

Coco Pops Croc Prints, Rice Krispies Multigrain Strawberry, Honey Loops and Honey Pops are familiar brands but have healthier recipes- so you can still feel good about giving them to your kids.

Fact: They are lower in sugar, lower in salt, made with wholegrain, high in fibre and a source of Vitamin D (25 per cent Recommended Daily Amount). They’ll start to appear in store from this month.

This quartet of new cereals are also healthy enough that they meet the strict criteria to be advertised to children and are part of Kelloggs on-going strategy to launch new products which offer parents a greater choice of breakfast cereals when they do their food shop.

We received a box of each of the new cereals to try out.  We had already tried the Croc Prints, so I knew those would go down well.

My children are 8 and 10 – we usually buy the plain cereals like Corn Flakes or Bran Flakes with an occasional box of a sweet cereal as a treat – so I was interested to see how they would react.

The Multigrain Strawberry shapes were an instant hit and were eaten immediately.  My 8 year old son in particular liked these – either with milk or as a munchy snack.  We haven’t bought any strawberry flavoured cereals before and he thought these were a real treat.

The chocolate Croc Prints were the next to be demolished.  Nobody complained that the taste was less strong and sweet than other chocolate cereals.

The honey cereals have been less popular.  I think in this case the children are used to a stronger and sweeter honey flavour on cereal so they were less impressed with these – I’m sure children that have never tried the full sugar versions will be fine with them.  My son liked mixing the hoops and the pops in one bowl for a bit of added interest – his theory is that the pops are made with the bit of stuff that is missing from the hoops….!
